Mornington Chasers Newsletter

9 September 2022

Well done to everybody who ran the Big Half last Sunday. What a fantastic event and great to see so many chasers. Even though it was a bit warm and humid the conditions were pretty good and other than the never ending tunnel with sweat dripping from the ceiling and the million miles of cobbled stones the course was great. Thank you to Lizzy for your support and the great photos. Big shout out to Jodie and Ellie for having the foresight to book a pub for afterwards. Special big up to Sarah for organising the £10 entries which made the race so much more inclusive. The focus now turns to the forthcoming cross country season which begins on the 1st of October at Dagenham. Please see details here and sign up before the 25th of September. The following day is the first of the Mornington Chasers 10k series at Regent’s Park. Details are here The next two target road races are the Cabbage Patch 10 on 16th October and the St Neot’s Half Marathon on 20th November. If you haven’t signed up yet get involved as places will fill up quickly. Sarah’s Words of Wisdom Marathon tip number 9: Practice makes better Having come off a week where many of you got a bit of practice/rehearsal at racing with the Big Half, it's time to hone in on what does and doesn't work for you over 13.2 miles and beyond (x2). Did your fancy shoes make you bounce or leave you dissatisfied with blisters or an achey arch? Did you get into the shower afterwards and scream because you just realized how much your bra chaffed you? Did that beetroot gel make you want to vomit? These are some of the things we want to be thinking about and prepping for in the last long runs of the training cycle. As coach Jenny puts it: On one my longest runs, I always do a race rehearsal. Rehearse what you are going to eat the night before the race and what you plan to have for breakfast. You need to make sure that it’s going sit right on your big day. Head out in the shoes you plan on racing in and your kit. It’s better to find out something is going to chafe or rub now than on your big day" Tea Rota   A volunteer needed for next Tuesday (13th), also the 27th.
