Chaser 3k Race 1
The first of two 3k races took place at Parliament Hill Track on Saturday. Well done to everyone who took part. Great running and top effort all round. It was brilliantly organised by Sarah Funderburk with volunteer support by her top officials, Robert Scott and Lizzy Muggeridge.
Chaser 3k Race 2 Schedule
The schedule is here to take us to the next 3k on May 8th. We are trying something a bit different to give everyone some options to focus on speed or endurance. Next week and the following week there will be 3 "speedier sessions" to choose from: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. If you only do one, choose the Thursday Track session. If you are aiming to build 3k and mile pace, do the Tuesday and Thursday sessions. If you wish to work on your endurance, do the Thursday and Saturday sessions.
Note about Tuesday sessions - these will not be coached, so we encourage anyone who wants to do it to lead or join a group and try the session at the RP track
Note about Saturday sessions - these are now club sessions so there is no need to book via Eventbrite. Just sign up on the Chaser calendar once posted
Coaching Blog - New Schedule Coming Soon! Races are Coming!
Click here for Sarah's latest coaching blog.
This week's track session will be 5-6 x 800m at 5k pace with 400m jog recoveries. Total 4000-4800m hard 2000-2400m recovery
Couldn't Sign Up for Track?
Let us know here if you missed out on track because the two Thursday sessions were fully booked, and would have liked a slot, so we know how many places we would ideally want to provide.
Chase-Go
It’s still not too late to sign-up/take part in Chase-Go! Fewer participants than last time so far, but on the positive there’s less need as we can now run in sixes. Also means that current participants have a greater chance of winning! Join in here!
Virtual Pilates Class
Pilates led by Danielle Smreczak take place on Mondays at 6pm. Connection details will be shared on Facebook in advance. A previously recorded class is available here
Race Report - Rose of the Shires Ultra - Saturday 10th April
This race was postponed from March 2020 so we were very happy to have our first opportunity this year to get out and go long. An early alarm call for the 05:35am train from Euston to Northampton meant we were in for a very long day.
After a cold damp start with the temperature considerable cooler than the mild weather in London we were off promptly at 8am.
The recent dry weather made running conditions underfoot good with only a few short muddy sections which were easy to get around.
The race is a single circular 54 (55 with a few navigation errors) mile loop starting/finishing in Brixworth Country Park in Northamptonshire.
The route takes you through two country parks, Salcey Forest, the Grand Union Canal and 21 pretty villages and towns following parts of the Nene Way, the Midshires Way and the Northampton Round.
Although the route is not marked the organisers provided a map booklet and an excellent GPX course for those of us fortunate enough to have fancy pants sports watches.
We were continuously passed by two runners who were attempting to follow the map book and not making a very good job of it.
36.5 miles of cross country trails, 15.6 miles of road and 1.8 miles of canal tow path with only 2315 ft of elevation to contend with.
As expected there were some stiles to climb over and a few locked gates too but nothing too difficult.
There were 6 checkpoints crewed by local running clubs who were very encouraging and after a final hour of running in the dark with head torches we were given hot drinks to warm us up at the finish.
A very friendly marshal even gave us a lift back to the train station in time for the 11pm train home.
There were 102 finishers out of 107 starters which is impressive for an ultra.
First male finished in an incredible 07:25:15 averaging 08:14 pace. First lady came home in 09:26:51 averaging 10:29 pace.
We would thoroughly recommend this race.
