Race report: Orion Harriers Forest Five The first race of the Orion Harriers Forest Five series took place last Saturday. I usually don't venture too close to the edge of Greater London for fear of ending up somewhere like Potters Bar, but the race came highly recommended from one Eamon Byrne (and rumour has it he no longer gets out of bed for any run less than 50km long). We had six Chasers at the start line. One of them brought their ruffian North London ways out to the tranquil forest with them and was spotted elbowing a fellow Chaser in the torso in order to get ahead. The aforementioned Eamon warned me to watch out for a few hills but apart from an incline at the beginning, there seemed to be no greater dangers than landing in a giant cow pat or having the spit of a ******** ** runner (club name redacted) land on ones shoe. It was at exactly 2.4 miles that a hill appeared, seemingly out of nowhere. We were able to enjoy a downhill stretch until at the home straight another hill appeared which made for a tough last half mile.  Well done to Anne Caspi, first Chaser past the post. Although he was wearing a ******** **** vest (club name redacted) I have to give a special mention to Stephen Fabes who won the race.   The route is set entirely in the woods and has a friendly club atmosphere. It is suitable for all abilities and the likelihood of seeing a few horses is high. If you get a chance, come along to the next races on the 6th of July and 3rd of August.
