3 April 2019

Croydon Half Marathon The Chasers ventured south of the river last Sunday and were a strong presence in the Croydon Half. Congratulations to our podium finishers! In the women’s race, Julie Pickering was first with a time of 1.32.54, and Amy Nightingale third with 1.36.18. Myles Preston was third in the men’s race with a time of 1.19.10. Well done all! Athletics The first athletics fixture of the year is April 13th in St Ives Cambridgeshire (there will be free coach travel organised). Please sign up using the link in the calendar before April 11th. All are welcome to take part and earn points for the team, and it’s a great way to test your speed or to try some new field events. London Marathon If you are not running the London marathon, you can still get involved, with the all-important Chasers cheering station at mile 22! More details to follow, but please save the date (April 28th) if you’d like to help out in setting this up early on the day (early is important to get the best spot!). You can also come along any time later in the day to lend your cheers and support to our runners, it is always lots of fun and greatly appreciated by all. There’s also the post marathon celebration at The Pineapple pub to look forward to afterwards. Next Beginners Programme The next beginners programme will start on Tuesday 7th May.  Our beginners programme is for those new to running, or returning after a break. The aim of the programme is to gradually build your running fitness until you feel ready to progress to our main club runs and training sessions. Please share this date with family and friends who might be interested and encourage them to register here. Please do not join the beginners programme if you can already run 5km, come for a taster session at one of our standard or intermediate Tuesday Runs instead.    Kit Currently we are out of some sizes of vest, but they are ordered, and we’ll let you know when they are in. New members get a club vest included in the price of their initial membership. This can be picked up in person after Tuesday runs at Talacre. Please ask Lola Akingbola, Fiona Carr, one of the club captains (the friendly folks that announce the runs at the start of our Tuesday sessions), or other committee member who can help. Other Chasers kit is available for purchase in our store. You can buy additional vests, ladies crop tops, T-shirts, and hoodies. We also have triathlon suits, currently available for £55 (previously £90) so get those while you can! All purchased items must be picked up on Tuesdays. We cannot deliver items. Please show your paypal receipt (a screenshot is fine!) when picking up your items.   Supporting Charities If you're taking part in any running event on a charity place, or are making the most of a Chaser event place by raising money for a good cause, then let us know and we'll promote your giving page in our newsletter.
