LONDON MARATHON 23 APRIL MARATHON RUNNERS- Please send Emma <emmahayward@hotmail.co.uk> your name, marathon number, details about what you plan to wear (e.g. Chaser vest) and expected finishing time so that the cheering team is ready to spot you as you pass by on The Highway. CHEERING TEAM-The cheering team sets up from around 0800 on The Highway near the junction with Cannon Street Road opposite the BP garage and drive-thru McDonald's. We’d love to see as many chasers there as possible! We’d really appreciate it if a few people can come early to help to secure our spot. The map reference is here. POST MARATHON CELEBRATIONS to be held at The Pineapple Pub Conservatory, Leverton Street, Kentish Town, from 1900 hours on 23 April and everyone is welcome to join in. Coaching update As I'm sure many of you are aware, club coach Urban Bettag has been working with us over the last 12 months, focusing mainly on our Thursday track sessions. Urban has been involved in organising and leading the sessions, as well as in developing and mentoring our volunteer leaders and coaches over this period, which has been a huge success. On behalf of the committee and the club we would like to thank Urban for all his hard work and commitment. Moving forward, the Thursday track sessions will be organised and lead by volunteer run leaders and coaches from within the club. The sessions will be posted as usual on Facebook and will form part of a wider club training schedule, which you can find here. As you can see, this training schedule encompasses our Tuesday club runs, Thursday coached sessions and also weekend runs, focusing on key races in the club calendar. On Tuesdays you will start to notice some new runs being announced which will include technical variations built into the longer runs (e.g. Fartlek, hills). These are optional runs alongside our normal club runs and will be offered at a variety of paces, so please feel free to try them out! If you've got any questions or would like to find out more about opportunities for volunteer coaching, please email coaching@chaser.me.uk New Beginners Group The next Beginners Group will start next Tuesday, 25th April. If you'd like to help out guiding the runners, please contact Stephen at beginners@chaser.me.uk. It's a simple way to give something back to the club, increase our membership (and funds!) and you don't have to help out every week. Coached sessions this week This evening’s (Tuesday) coached session builds on last week with the main set being 200s but this time with 'roll-on' recoveries at Regent's Park track. Warm-up drills and finishing with race tactics (the exact format depends on numbers). Thursday's session will take place at Parliament Hill track as per John's schedule below. Summer League- Training Schedule John has put together a training schedule to get everyone ready for the first summer league race in Gunnersbury in June. These races are suitable for all abilities and everyone is the club is encouraged to attend. Race Report- Southern Athletics League The first fixture of the Southern Athletics League took place on Saturday at Finsbury Park. A small Chasers contingent represented at the Women’s 1500m (Claire), 400m (Carmen) and Men’s 1500m (Jeff). Lizzy and Stephen provided vital officiating duties. The next fixture will take place at St Albans on the 20th of May. These events are really friendly and suitable for all abilities. If you’re afraid of getting lapped don’t be, or alternatively sign up for the 100m, 200m or 400m events. Sign up here.
