Sunday run from Richmond to Talacre
This Sunday, many of us will be enjoying the last long run of our Brighton training schedule by running from Richmond along the river back to Talacre. Why don’t you come and join us? Its 20 miles, but you can easily cut it short, for example if you stop at Westminster you will have done about 13 miles (and the nicest 13 miles at that). As long as you start running the right way down the river, it is pretty much impossible to get lost. We can have lots of pace groups even if some of them won’t have done the route before. We’ll head to the pub afterwards, obviously. We’ll set off from Richmond station at 10:15. Use this post on Facebook for any questions.
Two ways to help the Beginners Group!
We have two requests this week. First, if you fancy a slightly shorter run tomorrow night, please contact Stephen (beginners@chaser.me.uk) as we are a little short-handed for tomorrow night's session. The plan is to run about 5-6km in about 35-40 minutes.
Secondly, as next week is the last run for the current Beginners Group, there are a couple of celebrations happening to mark the occasion. We'll be going to the pub after our run next week, and some of the runners will be doing Finsbury Park parkrun on Saturday 25th March. It would be great to have a few friendly faces there to cheer them on, especially as a couple have already joined the club and will be making their debut run in their new Chasers vest!
Tuesday Coaching
This Tuesday's coaching provides two types of sessions - one for people training for 10K and upwards and one aimed more for shorter distances and the Southern Athletics League (SAL). Both disciplines include warm-up drills, strides and stretches at the end. The main set for the longer distances comprises intervals at LT with shorter 5k efforts and jog recoveries. The shorter distances set comprises LT then short hills reps with walk down recoveries and LT to finish. Easy run/jog to and from Primrose Hill. Suitable and adapted as necessary for all levels.
Spring Marathon Fundraising
Michele Griffiths will be running the Paris Marathon for the British Cross. A link to her fundraising page can be found here.
If you’d like your fundraising to be included in the newsletter, please email the details to newletter@chaser.me.uk.
Summer League
Did you know that the events calendar can send events straight to your outlook calendar? Why not get the Summer League dates into your diary now? The Summer League races (not to be confused with the Regent's Park summer series) are free inter-club events, no sign-up required. There's a picnic, and kids races too.
Ultramarathon documentary
In running, the longer the distance, the smaller the gap becomes between the fastest women and the fastest men. The women's marathon world record is just 13 minutes behind the men's, despite women only being allowed to run marathons less than 50 years ago. In ultramarathons, women regularly match and beat men.
Some of you might be interested in this documentary about last year's Western States 100 mile race, and the women who competed in it. It is inspiring and exiting to watch the boundaries that some people will push. Watch it here.
