Bronze Medal in Middlesex Masters Championship for our women's team
The final race in our cross country season was the Middlesex Masters Championships last Sunday, 19 February. In a season that has seen many club members, new and established participate in the various races, it was a fitting end that three of our most dedicated runners, Fiona Russell, Avril Riddell and Maki Kimura, won the women's team Bronze Medal.
Anne Caspi has done a fantastic job as team manager this year and I know we would all like to say a huge 'thank you' to her.
Cross Country is a fantastic way to build strength and endurance through the winter months and has traditionally been the way to maintain training levels before the start of the track season. The many benefits have proved valuable to our road runners and triathletes too.- Andrea
Karl Baddeley Memorial Beer Mile
There were some stellar performances at the Karl Baddeley Memorial Beer Mile. David Nelson rewrote the record books with a time of 16:22, shaving an impressive three minutes onto William McNulty’s previous record for slowest beer mile. No-one in the 30 year history of the club has ever done worse. The Vets were in good form too. John Armstrong set a V40 record for fastest beer mile (7:52), and won the race overall. Impressively, everyone who took part achieved either a personal best, or a personal worst. Many achieved both. The competition for shortest shorts was too close to call.
If that wasn’t enough, our athletes raised over £200 for Tiny Lives, a charity to support premature babies and their families. Visit our fundraising page if you would like to donate.
Thanks to everyone who has donated, to all our athletes and to Carmen, Stephen, Emma, Jenny and Alice for organization and moral support. You were all wonderful. The only person who really let the side down was Myles, but what did we expect?
A great event all round.- John
Coached Sessions this week
Avril will be coaching tomorrow evening at Primrose Hill, after a warm up jog from Talacre. Various drills and then 2x(8 mins @ threshold/marathon pace [90s jog], 5 mins @ 5k [90s jog], 2 mins @ 3k). 3 min RI. This session is suitable for all, recognising different speeds and good for endurance.
Thursday’s session will take place at Parliament Hill track. Further details will be posted on the facebook page later in the week.
!URGENT! - VOLUNTEER MARSHALS NEEDED
We still need an additional 3 volunteer marshals for our race this Sunday 5th March. You can sign up to marshal via the calendar.
Our Regent’s Park 10k series is vital to the clubs finances and needs the support by all members. This is the last in the current series of races.
We are teaming up with Autistica for this race and are hoping to see as many people as possible running in fancy dress- it’ll be the perfect occasion for those of you planning on running your spring marathons in fancy dress to practice running in costume.
