March MCRP10K- Fancy Dress Special!
We are designating our March MCRP10K race as a costume training run. We would like as many people as possible to run in fancy dress so if you plan to run in a costume in your fund raising efforts this is the ideal opportunity to test out the fit and feel of running in costume. Even if you are not please let your charity know so that they can spread the word to anyone that is running in costume. See more details here.
For the March MCRP10K race we will also be partnering with Autistica, a charity which both funds and campaigns for medical research into autism, as part of their build up to World Autism Awareness Month. If you would be interested in raising money for Autistica for this or your marathon run contact Charlotte Bignall at Charlotte.Bignall@autistica.org.uk
We are also desperately in need of six more marshals for this race. Sign up to marshal via the calendar.
Committee Vacancy- Events Role
The club needs someone to apply to take over the events role. The responsibilities of the role are to make sure that the Summer League events are run smoothly; make sure that the club has a range of events through the year; and assist the social secretary in ensuring that Chasers are generally entertained throughout the year.
If you are interested in standing for the role, please email alice.sullivan@ucl.ac.uk.
The 2017 Summer League is approaching.
There are 5 fixtures this year. 10k and 5 mile road races. All of the races are free to enter. All participants pick up points for the club. All abilities welcome!! The races are very friendly events.
The first race is a 10k race at Gunnersbury Park on the 4th of June. This year sees the return of Serpentine Running Club's Battersea Park fixture, on the 20th of August; probably London's best course for PBs.
4th June 2017, Gunnersbury Park
18th June 2017, Headstone Manor Park
2nd July 2017, Dulwich Park
16th July 2017, Regent's Park
20th August 2017, Battersea Park
Alternative Training Session
In the 2016 Rio Olympics, Mo Farah fell over mid race yet went on to win gold. His secret? No secret. Just endless hours of practice. If you too want to perfect falling over on race day, you are going to have to start falling over in training.
On Thursday, as an alternative to regular track training you may wish to try the Karl Baddeley Memorial Beer Mile. This consists of alternating efforts of beer drinking and running in the dark. 4 x (355ml fast, 400m [1m pace]). For those serious about their performance, this is the one “secret session” that separates the winners from the losers.
All abilities, even teetotallers, welcome. Meet at Talacre. See online to register and for further details.
