4 July 2016
Committee Meeting Tonight
The next committee meeting takes place tonight, Monday 4 July in the upstairs room at The Grafton pub on Prince of Wales Road from 7pm. All members are welcome.
Southern Athletics League
The next Southern Athletics fixture takes place on Saturday, 9 July at Woodford. If you fancy trying your hand at some shorter distances, perhaps a field event or you’re up for volunteering, sign up on the Chasers Calendar.
Summer League
The next SUMMER LEAGUE fixture is upon us - a 5 mile race this Sunday 10 July in Dulwich Park, starting at 9:30. We earn points for ALL runners and there are only 4 of these meetings in which to build up a winning score! It is also very family friendly with races for the young ones. Look out on Facebook for any details of how others are travelling to Dulwich and to meet up. No need to sign up in advance – just turn up with your Chaser vest.
The CLUB HOSTS SUMMER LEAGUE event on Sunday 24 July – URGENT CALL OUT to all members! We need volunteers to help set up and marshal the event plus prepare the food and, of course, run. Please volunteer your services now on the Chasers Calendar. Members who plan to run are also encouraged to help with the food preparation and children’s events / relays once finished. We need as many people as possible to make this a fantastic event for our club so please encourage family and friends to get involved too. We then also have our 30th anniversary party to follow.
Essex Way
We are looking to enter 2 teams into the ESSEX WAY relay on the 4th September. More details can be found here but in short it runs from Epping Forest to Harwich, is beautiful and very enjoyable. Just ask a few members who did it last year! We will get a link on the events calendar so that you are able to register your interest.
Pub night
It’s the monthly pub night tomorrow (5 July) after Tuesday’s training runs – grab the pie & pint deal at Tapping The Admiral from 8:30pm.
Brick training session
The monthly brick training session will take place this Saturday (9 July), meeting at 9am at Regent’s Park track. If you’re new to multi-sport, a brick session involves some cycling followed straight away by a bit of running. These sessions are open to ALL abilities – all you need is a bike and your running kit. There will be someone available to watch over your belongings while you train.
Coached sessions this week
Tuesday night’s coached session will be led by Andrea. Thursday’s session will be a ‘Bonderenko Session’, led by John at Parliament Hill track. Details will be posted on the Mornington Chasers Facebook page in advance for anyone unable to attend.
Race Reports
Ultimate Trails 110k
A truly brutal endurance run/walk/crawl taking in 12,000ft of ascent/descent, including 6 mountain passes and a lot of steep downhill. The start saw the 330 competitors, departing at midnight, weave up some early climbs with head torches, creating an awesome spectacle of beacons zig-zagging away in the darkness. We were blessed with dry weather for the first few hours, but this turned quickly as often does in the lakes, meaning that the final 70km were spent braving frequent sideways rain, ankle deep bogs and 50mph gusts at the top. As a whole, it was extremely tough and not an event to be taken lightly, which the 5 UTMB points would suggest. The course overall was more fell running than trail running, which was very tough on the legs, but with a mixture of run and walk we made it round the 65.4 mile route in 20h15m. I won't rush back into a fell running ultra, especially not at this distance, but this won't be my final ultra! - Chris Zair
