Chase the Pace 5,000m and 10,000m & training plan This year marks the 30th anniversary of the club and we will stage the 'Chase the Pace 5,000m and 10,000m' at Parliament Hill Athletics Track on 27th August. To support those Chasers wanting to do well, achieve more and smash their 5k/10k PBs this summer, we have put a 16 week 5k/10k training programme together. Coach Urban has designed a training programme for runners training 4x (optional 5x) per week. The schedule progresses from general to (5k/10k) specific and aligns Thursday track sessions and the Summer League races between June and August. If you have not been training much recently or you just recovered from injury, we recommend to transition gradually, i.e. run a couple of miles less, run a few repetitions less and add 10% in distance to your run per week, ultimately you will be back on track and can follow the schedule again. Thanks to our 'web wizard' John for putting the schedule up on the Chasers Website. The site allows you to enter your 5k time and provides choice for those who want to train 5x / week. We will post more details for the Thursday track sessions on the Chasers Facebook group. Spring marathon fundraising Last chance to include your fundraising in the newsletter - please email the details to newsletter@chaser.me.uk before 15 May.  If you do then not only will you be advertising to a whole load of potential sponsors in your fellow clubmates, the club itself may also consider making a donation to your chosen charity.  Coached sessions this week The Tuesday session this week will be led by Andrea and the Thursday track session by Urban.  Details will be posted on the Mornington Chasers Facebook page in advance for anyone unable to attend. Race reports Conti Lightning Run, Sunday 1st May Conti Lightning Run is a 12hr relay race around a beautiful 10km trail lap in South Derbyshire. We nervously entered as a female pair - Team Goose and Bear (Lucy Fox and Claire Briggs) and would spend the day running alternate loops. The race started at 6am and from then on we chowed down 10ks for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner with some extra 10k snacks for good measure. Come the 6pm cut off we were both truly stuffed. Spurred on by the great community atmosphere (and an inconceivable amount of flapjacks) we managed to secure a Chasers victory, first female pair! We're hoping to replicate the success at the beasty 24hr Thunder run later in the summer - Claire Briggs Hackney Half Marathon Hackney is definitely a great route for a PB, but not on the hottest day of the year surrounded by about 15,000 runners. I spent a lot of my time looking for Jeremy Corbyn (who was apparently there to support the runners) but I couldn't spot him, unfortunately. The race village felt like Glastonbury Festival; lots of spectators enjoying themselves. There was certainly a whiff of some illegal substances in the air... – Myles Preston Calendar Here's whats happening over the next few weeks other than our usual Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday runs.
