Interested in qualifying as a coach or run leader?
If you would like to train as a qualified run leader or as a coach then there are some courses coming up. Anyone can lead a run on a Tuesday, but if you are qualified as a run leader then you and the people you are leading are then fully insured. We’d particularly encourage you to qualify as a run leader if you want to help out with the beginner’s programme.
You can find the dates for leadership in running fitness courses in London here. This one day course is intended to give you the confidence to lead runs. It covers some simple workout ideas, stretches and drills, a splash of sports science and basic health and safety.
There is going to be a Coach in Running Fitness course in Wood Green starting in April - details here. This takes four days in total. You already need a leadership in running fitness qualification before moving onto coach in running fitness and need to be able to commit to all four days.
We will normally pay for club members who wish to take these qualifications. If you would like to take either of these courses please email A.Sullivan@ioe.ac.uk with a sentence or two saying what you plan to do with your qualification (e.g. help with beginners, lead runs on Tuesdays etc.)
Spring marathon fundraising
At this time of year a lot of Chasers will be running marathons and may also be fundraising for charity. If you’d like your fundraising to be included in the newsletter, please email the details to newletter@chaser.me.uk.
Race prizes
At the Baldock Beast Half Marathon on 28 February, not only did Avril & Maki win their age categories, but along with Rafaele, the Mornington Chasers also won the Ladies’ Team Prize!
And at the Eastbourne Half Marathon on 6 March, Fiona Russell was third lady.
Well done all.
Club coached sessions in March
Throughout the rest of March, Thursday evenings coaching is focussed on marathon and half-marathon training. If you are planning to run other distances, please let Andrea know (message her on Facebook or if you're not on Facebook reply to the newsletter and your message can be forwarded on) and she will adapt the sessions or provide alternatives as appropriate. March 10, hills; March 17, track; March 24, hills; March 31, track.
Over the next three Tuesdays (March 8, 15 and 22) the coached sessions take running back to basics to include balance, agility and coordination, running form (foot and arm positions and use, core), track and hill running. These sessions are suitable for everyone and particularly good for people returning to running or who have recently completed the Couch to 5K programme. They are aimed to develop good running form to help prevent injury and improve running efficiency for speed and endurance. Each session to include reps or intervals, warm-down and stretches. These sessions provide a base level to be developed in your own time and during the warm-up drills over the coming months.
On March 29 the session will be coached by Avril.
Cookie Monster outfit
When Karl Baddeley left for Australia, he kindly donated his Cookie Monster outfit to the club. The Cookie Monster is available to club members for marshalling and other charitable or community activities. He makes marshalling warmer and more fun (see photo below). There is no space for the Cookie Monster at the Talacre, so he is currently residing with John and Alice. Please let Alice know if you would like to borrow him: a.sullivan@ioe.ac.uk.
