London Marathon elite drinks station
Every year, the Mornington Chasers organise one of the elite drinks tables at the London Marathon, in exchange for places in the race. We need Chasers to volunteer to help out between 7am and around 11am/12pm on the day. It's an early start but lots of fun and a unique perspective on this amazing event. Sign up at the Events Calendar on the website.
Beer mile
On Thursday 18th February, as an alternative to the regular session (which is still going ahead at Parliament Hill track), club members are attempting the Beer Mile (see www.beermile.com). We will be leaving Talacre at the usual time and jogging to Regents Park track to attempt this true test of endurance! Everyone is welcome, whether spectating or participating but please bring torches/head torches to help illuminate the route for participants. There will be a Regent's Park session for spectators beforehand too with more laughter guaranteed! We will also go to a Primrose Hill pub after which everyone is welcome to join (location TBC). If you didn't sign up on the website but still want to take part then you can just turn up, but please bring your own supplies!
Disclaimer: Please note this is not a club race and any risks arising for running while consuming alcohol are at your own risk.
Coached sessions this week
Both the Tuesday and Thursday (track) coached sessions will be led by Andrea this week and details will be posted on the Mornington Chasers Facebook page in advance for anyone unable to attend. The Thursday session will take place as usual at Parliament Hill track – the ‘Beer mile’ is a separate event.
Race Reports
If you have something to say about a race you’ve run or can recommend any upcoming races, please email newsletter@chaser.me.uk.
Barcelona Marathon
Six Chasers travelled over to Barcelona for the half marathon and two (Karl Baddeley and Emma Hayward) got fantastic personal records despite John Armstrong feeding them a kilo of shellfish each the night before. Everyone performed well on the day and had a very enjoyable time.
Bramley 20
I’ve run two marathons but this was my first 20 mile race. It’s easy to get to from London, especially with a 10:30am start and it's well organised. The 2 lap course is mostly flat with a few hills, but nothing terrible. The first few miles were pretty busy as the Bramley 10 takes place at the same time but it thinned out and the second lap was quite a peaceful countryside run. I was pleased with my time and worked out that if I can run 20 miles in the same time at the Brighton Marathon in April, I could probably walk the rest and still get a PB there!
