This week:
All good wishes to Phil Tysoe for a speedy recovery following his appendectomy this week and unfortunately missing the Highgate Harriers 5000m. Enjoy the rest and we look forward to welcoming you back stronger and (marginally) lighter ready for the cross country season.
An action packed week for Chasers as the summer season ends and the autumn kicks in with Hampstead Heath the focal point for both track racing (results below) and the Pondathon (results usually take a while). Times across all distances continue to tumble and pbs feature. Many congratulations to Chi Ifeacho who improved her time at the Velopark Duathlon by over eight minutes and to Adam Parkes who won the Run to the Beat 10K today at Wembley. Other results from the weekend will no doubt filter through and be included in next week’s newsletter – Great North Run, John Armstrong’s extended run in the Farnham Pilgrim Half Marathon and more!
All the results are now in for the Summer League, please see Perivale and Battersea Park results below. Many thanks to Lizzy Muggeridge for a great job organising this series of events over the Summer. All the results are planned to be on the Summer League website later this week http://summerleague.meteor.com
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS
This year our club championship race is being held 1 November at the Mornington Chasers Regent’s Park 10K. When you register, please include that you are a member of Mornington Chasers so that you are included in the championships results. Details, as always available in the events section www.chaser.me.uk/calendar If you are injured or recovering from another race, please consider volunteering as a marshal so that you can still be part of the day.
CLUB WINTER SERIES 10K in The Regent’s Park
This series of races in The Regent’s Park organised by Nice Work using our branding is our main source of funding for the club. Please volunteer to marshal at least one race per year, October to March. When you volunteer you also get free entry to another race in the series. Avril is gathering a list of volunteers or sign-up on the club website.
VELOPARK RELAYS
Greenwich Tritons are organising a team sprint duathlon relay race at the Velopark, 15 October. Four people per team, either all male, all female or two of each. It would be great if we could get a couple of teams together. We already have a strong base for one team in Jonathan Thomson and Gareth Jones. This is a fantastic opportunity to experience and enjoy this brilliant venue and be part of a club team. In the first instance please contact newsletter@chaser.me.uk we also need someone to captain this event. For details: http://www.entrycentral.com/Greenwich-team-relay-duathlon
THIS WEEK’S COACHED SESSIONS:
Tuesday with Avril. Cross country focus with the season fast approaching, suitable for all levels.
Thursday with Avril at the track.
The session details are usually posted on our Facebook page on the day.
RACE RESULTS
To include your results in the newsletter please email Andrea (newsletter@chaser.me.uk) with the details. A brief description of what you thought of the race and if you would recommend it to others would be great too, but not essential. There is no need to send results from Club races such as Summer League, Southern Athletics League and Start Fitness Metropolitan Cross Country League as these are gathered by the team captains / event managers.
RUN TO THE BEAT, 10K, 13 September
Adam Parkes 36:37 (Winner)
ESSEX WAY RELAY, 6 September
"Last Sunday the Chasers made their first appearance in the Essex Way relay. This free trail race follows the 81 mile public way between Epping (still on the tube network) and Harwich (on the coast).
Despite a few wrong turns the team placed a more than respectable 15th out of 67 teams with everyone putting in strong performances. Four people enjoyed it so much they joined in on extra legs just for fun.
After racing through fields and forests, costal paths and vineyards and zipping along country roads in our hire cars the day ended with hard-earned team fish and chips by the sea.
The whole event was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and may become a permanent fixture on the Chaser calendar with the opportunity to increase the number of teams we enter in the future."
