CLUB NEWS
This weekend saw the last Summer Series event and Southern Athletics League meeting. Results for the Summer League will follow in a week or two. In the meantime many congratulations to Lizzy and Chi who both achieved massive personal best times in their 10Ks and also to Kelly in her 1500m and 3000m and Chi in her 100m in Newham (SAL). And a special mention to Hannah who took part in three field events: shot, javelin and discus. Roll on next summer!
An email was sent out last week to all members announcing that it is with huge regret that Tom Craggs has resigned. Tom headed up our coaching for six years and during that time had a significant influence on the club and individual members. Below is a copy of the post Tom made on Facebook following the email. The tributes from all sections of our membership are a wonderful reflection of the huge respect and love felt for Tom and gratitude for his work and inspiration. We all wish Tom well with his coaching career, which continues to go from strength to strength, and look forward to seeing him at the club when in London. We have all been incredibly fortunate to benefit from Thursday (and in the early days, Tuesday) sessions and know he will be hugely missed.
‘Dear Mornington Chasers. As many of you now know I have, reluctantly, decided to step down as head coach for the club. It's been more than 6 fantastic years now and you have all supported me to grow and develop to the point now where running coaching is my whole life and job. Since I joined the club in 2008 I could not have felt more supported and encouraged both as a runner and a coach. Having now moved out of London I have felt unable to provide the dedication, consistency and energy I think you all need and deserve. You're all wonderful and I know you'll find a brilliant new coach to work with the awesome Andrea and Avril Riddell.
In particular though I have to say thanks to a few people from those early years, who kept me running and supported me to develop as a runner and professional coach Daren Morley, Sarah, Alex Kitriomilides, Mark Henrion, John Armstrong, Andrea Sanders-Reece, Tim Taylor, Livi Toye and a bit later Ian Girling. In particular though both Simon Freeman and Wendy Millyard who are a large part of why I still run and coach. Those early years were some of the happiest of my life.
Also thanks to Bernie and Ted King who were both coaching when I started for providing inspiration and guidance.
I will see you all around and still hope to run with you if you'll have me!
Keep in touch - tom@runningwithus.com’
We are currently looking for a new head coach. As the committee member responsible for coaching at the club, Hannah is leading the search. In the meantime Avril Riddell and Andrea Sanders-Reece (who currently lead the Tuesdays sessions) will cover Thursday training sessions as planned and relevant to the seasonal schedule.
PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR CLUB!
Tuesday evenings are the main time when we all get together after our runs over tea and biscuits on the mezzanine level and it would be great if you volunteered to make the tea once a year, please. This requires cutting your usual run a bit shorter but we all appreciate the effort and it is a shame to see this tradition disappearing due to lack of volunteers – if we each take a turn that would be wonderful.
The Mornington Chasers Regent’s Park WINTER SERIES 10K is how we raise most of our funds. We need members to volunteer to marshal these races. In return you get free entry to another race in the series. The races are run on the first Sunday of the month from October to March inclusive and we need people to volunteer for October. If you can help, in the first instance please speak with Avril Riddell or email newsletter@chaser.me.uk
For those of you who are on STRAVA, we have a Mornington Chasers STRAVA group (https://www.strava.com/clubs/mornington-chasers). Members can like each other's activities, comment on them or simply see what others are doing. Thank you to Phil Tysoe for the reference.
HIGHGATE HARRIERS OPEN MEETING, 9 SEPTEMBER

CROSS COUNTRY MET LEAGUE
All the cross country Met League dates are accessible via the events listing on the club website.
