This weekend saw the last Summer Series event and Southern Athletics League meeting. Results for the Summer League will follow in a week or two. In the meantime many congratulations to Lizzy and Chi who both achieved massive personal best times in their 10Ks and also to Kelly in her 1500m and 3000m and Chi in her 100m in Newham (SAL). And a special mention to Hannah who took part in three field events: shot, javelin and discus. Roll on next summer!

An email was sent out last week to all members announcing that it is with huge regret that Tom Craggs has resigned. Tom headed up our coaching for six years and during that time had a significant influence on the club and individual members. Below is a copy of the post Tom made on Facebook following the email. The tributes from all sections of our membership are a wonderful reflection of the huge respect and love felt for Tom and gratitude for his work and inspiration. We all wish Tom well with his coaching career, which continues to go from strength to strength, and look forward to seeing him at the club when in London. We have all been incredibly fortunate to benefit from Thursday (and in the early days, Tuesday) sessions and know he will be hugely missed.

‘Dear Mornington Chasers. As many of you now know I have, reluctantly, decided to step down as head coach for the club. It's been more than 6 fantastic years now and you have all supported me to grow and develop to the point now where running coaching is my whole life and job. Since I joined the club in 2008 I could not have felt more supported and encouraged both as a runner and a coach. Having now moved out of London I have felt unable to provide the dedication, consistency and energy I think you all need and deserve. You're all wonderful and I know you'll find a brilliant new coach to work with the awesome Andrea and Avril Riddell.
In particular though I have to say thanks to a few people from those early years, who kept me running and supported me to develop as a runner and professional coach Daren Morley, Sarah, Alex Kitriomilides, Mark Henrion, John Armstrong, Andrea Sanders-Reece, Tim Taylor, Livi Toye and a bit later Ian Girling. In particular though both Simon Freeman and Wendy Millyard who are a large part of why I still run and coach. Those early years were some of the happiest of my life.
Also thanks to Bernie and Ted King who were both coaching when I started for providing inspiration and guidance.
I will see you all around and still hope to run with you if you'll have me!
Keep in touch - tom@runningwithus.com’

We are currently looking for a new head coach. As the committee member responsible for coaching at the club, Hannah is leading the search. In the meantime Avril Riddell and Andrea Sanders-Reece (who currently lead the Tuesdays sessions) will cover Thursday training sessions as planned and relevant to the seasonal schedule.

Tuesday evenings are the main time when we all get together after our runs over tea and biscuits on the mezzanine level and it would be great if you volunteered to make the tea once a year, please. This requires cutting your usual run a bit shorter but we all appreciate the effort and it is a shame to see this tradition disappearing due to lack of volunteers – if we each take a turn that would be wonderful.

The Mornington Chasers Regent’s Park WINTER SERIES 10K is how we raise most of our funds. We need members to volunteer to marshal these races. In return you get free entry to another race in the series. The races are run on the first Sunday of the month from October to March inclusive and we need people to volunteer for October. If you can help, in the first instance please speak with Avril Riddell or email newsletter@chaser.me.uk

For those of you who are on STRAVA, we have a Mornington Chasers STRAVA group (https://www.strava.com/clubs/mornington-chasers). Members can like each other's activities, comment on them or simply see what others are doing. Thank you to Phil Tysoe for the reference.

To be held at Parliament Hill with events from sprints to 5000m. Enter on line at www.highgateharriers.org.uk (the 5000m tends to fill up quickly, if you sign-up and then can’t run please let the organisers know so that others can take part).

If you would like to help with running these programmes or lead a programme please speak with Hannah McQuarrie (the committee member responsible for training) or John Armstrong (who leads the current programme).

Due to the cancellation of Cabbage Patch 10, our annual Club Championship Race this year is to be the Mornington Chasers Regent’s Park 10K, November 1. Please enter via the Nice Work site as usual and ensure that you include that you are a member of Mornington Chasers on your entry.

All the cross country Met League dates are accessible via the events listing on the club website. From September some of the coaching sessions will have specific cross country focus to help you get the most out of the season. Cross country is fantastic for building strength and endurance and provides a great foundation for summer road and track events.

TRIATHLON ENGLAND LONDON LEAGUE has just THREE EVENTS LEFT with the 6 September Triathlon sold out. The last two are: London Fields Aquathlon (400m heated outdoor pool swim + 5K run) – a fun event perfect for all levels from beginners to experienced triathletes with fab cakes, 4 October; Jekyll and Hyde Duathlon – cycle, run, cycle, tough but great for all levels, end of October. For details about triathlon at the club visit the website or contact Andrea at triathlon@chaser.me.uk

To include your results in the newsletter please email Andrea (newsletter@chaser.me.uk) with the details. A brief description of what you thought of the race and if you would recommend it to others would be great too, but not essential. There is no need to send results from Club races such as Summer League, Southern Athletics League and Cross Country as these are gathered by the team captains / event managers.

The last meeting of the season - perfect conditions and a good bouncy track contributed to fabulous performances and a fun day out. Thank you to Anna Waterman who volunteered for the day, helping with measuring the triple jump, and also ran in the women’s 4 x 100m relay team.
