Don't forget to sign up to the athletics on the calendar- the next match is this Saturday (20th) in St Albans.
Lauren has addressed some points below:
1) I'll be way behind everyone else...
You probably won't be, the standard is very varied and the bigger teams do non preferred events to pick up extra points. Even if you are at the back everyone is supportive and no one cares who comes last!
2) I don't know anyone else going...
Because it's usually a smallish team, it's a great way to get to know some of your fellow chasers and it doesn't matter if you're new.
3) I won't know what to do when I get there...
I will have the number for your vest, can point out when and where you need to be and the track or field judge will tell you anything else you need to know.
4) I'll get injured...
If you do a good warm up you'll probably be fine but may just ache a bit the next day. If you choose to do pole vault, I take no responsibility!
5) I won't enjoy it...
Rubbish! People that do the athletics come back for more. Plus if it's a new event there's a shiny new pb coming your way.
The current beginners group is now a few weeks into training and everyone is progressing really well. The group is in need of more volunteers. If you'd like to help out guiding the runners, please contact Stephen at email@example.com. It's a simple way to give something back to the club and you don't have to help out every week. No previous experience is needed!
The first fixture of the Summer League is only a few weeks away. Remember to sign up for the coach as there are only a few spaces remaining.
Every 8 weeks or so, you should set yourself a technical goal to improve your running. The idea is to gradually improve your running form through incremental changes, but only ever working on one small aspect. Read John’s tips here.
