Mornington Chasers Newsletter

19 December 2016

The Remarkable Success of our Triathletes Multi-sport at the club continues to bring out truly outstanding performances from our members and a competitive spirit that inspires and motivates ever growing participation. Members competed in events both in this country and abroad and the Mornington Chasers Tri-suits were seen on podiums far and wide. In 2016 we had two members who qualified and represented GB and raced in their age groups - Jonno Thompson in Triathlon in the ITU World Championships in Cozumel and Andrea Sanders-Reece in Sprint Duathlon in the ITU World Championships in Aviles and ETU European Championships in Kalkar. In only her second duathlon, Nicola Timmins qualified for team GB for the ETU European Championships in Soria, Spain 2017. It is a truly remarkable achievement to have three GB triathletes from one small club but there is a very real opportunity for there to be more in 2017. At a national and more local level, Andrea won the London Triathlon League and silver in the British Triathlon Standard Duathlon - both in her age-group. Sarah Taylor won her age-group in the Cotsolds Women's Triathlon. The Velopark Duathlon saw both Nicola Timmins and Hannah McQuarrie win the women's race and Andrea won the over 50s in all the events she entered. There were other podium places too, in fact I think there was a club member represented on the podium at all of the events which we entered and certainly pb times achieved. This makes it sound easy - it isn't, each place is raced for. Lucy Francis continues to compete and inspire in Iron Man events and distances across the world. This year Gareth Jones seemed to compete at every distance and discipline (except full Iron-Man, that's for 2017) and is always an encouraging supportive voice to both new and more established members. He is also probably the most experienced of the team at dealing with punctures. There are now 49 members of our Facebook page - all are members / recent members of the club with the exception of Neil Pollock who established Triathlon at the club back in 2007/8 and now lives in Australia. Members encourage and work with each other from organising brick sessions to making training recommendations for swimming and cycling. Leyla deserves a special mention for handling our diary of brick sessions and organising group meetings. I am sure there are others who merit a mention - thank you! Running is always the last event in Triathlons, Duathlons and Aquathlons (and even the Pondathon) and belonging to a running club,I believe, is our strength and edge over the competition. It is an exciting time at the club for multi-sport as we all look to encourage and spur each other on. Anything is possible! Talacre and Parliament Hill Track Christmas Closures Tuesday runs and Thursday coached sessions at Parliament Hill will recommence w/b 2nd of January. In the meantime, keep an eye on the Facebook page for details of runs people may be doing or post your own. Also, catch up on any of Urban's coaching blog posts you may have missed.   Hampstead Heath Parkrun Takeover! On Saturday 21st January, Mornington Chasers will be taking over Hampstead Heath Parkrun. This means we’ll be providing all the marshals, timers etc. needed for the event. We’re also looking for volunteers to help make the race a bit more special: for example pacers and a photographer. If you are able to help in any way, please volunteer using the calendar. Volunteers are also needed to help out at upcoming Regent's Park 10k races.
