On Saturday 21st January, Mornington Chasers will be taking over Hampstead Heath Parkrun. This means we’ll be providing all the marshals, timers etc. needed for the event. We’re also looking for volunteers to help make the race a bit more special: for example pacers and a photographer. If you are able to help in any way, please volunteer using the calendar.
Andrea will be coaching on Tuesday evening which will include a mix of hills and threshold - an excellent session and base for building fitness, strength and endurance in preparation for events in 2017. These friendly, supportive sessions are suitable for all levels and include warm-up drills and stretches.
Details of Thursday's session will be posted on our Facebook page later in the week.
Run on rural undulating roads by the coast with stunning views of the Atlantic, 10k (650 finishers), Half Marathon (584 finishers) and Marathon (453 finishers) all started together with the routes separating after about 5 miles. There were some nasty hills in the second half and the weather was blustery near the coast.
The organisers put on a great event and even managed to have 3 ex-Boston Marathon winners in attendance: Amby Burfoot 1968, Bobbi Gibb the first ever woman to complete the course in 1966 when women were not allowed to run, (Bobbi returned to win in 1967 and 1968) and Niall Cusack 1974, the only Irish man to ever win at Boston. Two survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing, Adrianne Haslet and Christine Negron Burfoot ran the 10k together.
The race started and finished at a rural hotel in the town where most of the runners stayed so there was a party atmosphere all weekend. The race director has a major star lined up for next year but I'm sworn to secrecy. -Eamon Byrne 04:23:32
