BMAF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Good luck to Dave Renton who runs in the M40 British Masters AF World Championships in Lyon, 4 to 16 August. The championships have thousands of masters athletes from all over the world competing. Having achieved an adult pb time this year in the 1500m, Dave is looking forward to the experience and the challenge.
FOREST FIVE – TOP SERIES WINNER, FIONA RUSSELL
Congratulations to Fiona Russell who won the top series woman prize at the Forest Five trail race at the weekend.
SUMMER SEASON EVENTS DRAW TO A CLOSE
Free to enter - there is just one event left in the SAL and we need athletes for track and field events and volunteers to join the team in Newham, August 15. This is a great opportunity to try out runs, jumps and throws and score points for the club. For details please see the club website and register your interest via the events page or email Kelly at email@example.com
The final Summer League event, also free to enter and with food, is hosted by Serpies at Battersea Park, August 16. The adult race is 10K with tenderfoot mile for children and relays. Details on the website www.chaser.me.uk plus links to previous results (we are still waiting for Headstone results).
Triathlon England London League also has just three events left with the event 6 September sold out. The next two are: London Fields Aquathlon (400m heated outdoor pool swim + 5K run) – a fun event perfect for all levels from beginners to experienced triathletes with fab cakes, 4 October; Jekyll and Hyde Duathlon – cycle, run, cycle, tough but great for all levels. For details about triathlon at the club and events visit the website or contact Andrea at firstname.lastname@example.org
PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR CLUB!
The Mornington Chasers Regent’s Park Winter Series is how we raise most of our funds. We need members to volunteer to marshal these races. In return you get free entry to another race in the series. The races are run on the first Sunday of the month from October to March inclusive and we need people to volunteer for October. If you can help, in the first instance please speak with Avril Riddell or email email@example.com
For those of you who are on STRAVA, we have a Mornington Chasers STRAVA group (https://www.strava.com/clubs/mornington-chasers). Members can like each other's activities, comment on them or simply see what others are doing. Thank you to Phil Tysoe for the reference.
THUNDER RUN by Dan Hedley
14 of us travelled up to take part in the annual 24hr relay, Thunder Run, which consists of teams (or crazy soloers) attempting to complete as many tough 10km trail laps as possible. So after starting at midday on Saturday, around 24hrs and a collective 550km later we were done, broken and sleep deprived, but feeling wonderful. It's an event I can't recommend highly enough, challenging, great fun and a fantastic way to get to know your fellow Chasers.
Everyone who was there was amazing, put everything they had into the whole weekend and were rewarded with great results (30th and 35th out of 229!).
Well done all!
Michael Shelton - the only one to manage a monster 50km
Dave Glencross - an amazing 13th place overall in a special mountain sprint challenge.
Nicola Heron - most consistent, all four laps were incredibly close in time.
John Armstrong - fastest Chaser lap.
TRAINING THIS WEEK
Meet at Talacre Mezzanine Level at 1900 for briefing and 1915 departure.
Coached session with Andrea - suitable for all levels.
Choice of summer runs which may include, across Hampstead Heath and beyond, The Regent's Park or Madame Tussauds, from 5 to 6 or up to 10 miles at various speeds depending on who is available to lead the groups.
Potential new members are welcome to try us out on a Tuesday night so are frequently spotted within our runs!
Tea and biscuits after the run on the Mezzanine Level at Talacre.
First Tuesday of the month is pub night. Meet at Tapping the Admiral for pies and pints.
BIKE SESSIONS (Swains Lane reps often at 0630 on Wednesday mornings) please see our Facebook page for updates.
Sessions usually with our coach Tom Craggs are for all members and are designed to develop and inspire excellence whatever your chosen discipline. The current focus is on building speed endurance. Please meet at Talacre for easy run to the session venue.
6 August TRACK (with Tom), 13 August HILLS (with Andrea)
Couch to 5K adult beginners programme on Hampstead Heath. Beginners must pre-register for the programme via the club website. Please encourage non-running friends or colleagues to join-up – they’ll love it! Volunteers meet outside Hampstead Heath overground station at 9:45. If you would like to help with running these programmes or lead a programme please speak with Hannah McQuarrie (the committee member responsible for training) or John Armstrong (who is leading the current programme).
Long runs from Talacre usually at 0900, suitable for experienced runners able to run a minimum of 10 miles. Paces and distances vary - please check our Facebook page details.
To include your results in the newsletter please email Andrea (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the details. A brief description of what you thought of the race and if you would recommend it to others would be great too, but not essential. There is no need to send results from Club races such as Summer League, Southern Athletics League and Cross Country as these are gathered by the team captains / event managers.
