Team Captains Weekly Update
Hello All,
What foul weather last weekend, making long runs and races very uncomfortable. Only the barmiest of us (spring marathon entrants) would be out in such weather. Please reward our hard working members by visiting their fundraising pages (more details below). Don’t forget if you would like to add you fundraising page to weekly, just reply to this email and I'll add your detail for next week.
There's still time to take part in Jane Nodder's research study looking at the dietary practices and nutritional knowledge of club level marathon runners. If you are training for London, Paris, Brighton, Stratford or another marathon due to take place in the period 11-25 April 2010, are interested in nutrition and have not yet signed up for the study, please do contact Jane on nutriworks@aol.com. Thank you to everyone who has been in contact so far.
It was like Primark on a Saturday, during Chasers tea on Tuesday night. With members trying on our new swanky Chasers t-shirts. They will be on sale again this Tuesday and Thursday. For just £10 you can be the envy of your mates, wearing the famous white, green, and gold.
And finally we are still a few marshals short for this Sundays Regents Park 10k. If anyone can help out please be at the Hub for 8am this Sunday.

FUNDRAISING
It’s that time of year, with a number of members competing in Spring Marathons, when we turn our attention to raising money for charities. The following Chasers are running to raise money for charities close to their hearts. Please take time to look at their Justgiving sites. If you would like to add your page here please get in touch.

TRIATHLON
I know it's too early in the year (and day) to start thinking about running around in wet lycra while competing for club and ..er club.
The results are in for the London Triathlon League 2009 and we didn't come anywhere near last which is a great result, just look at the weblink below.
www.triathlonlondon.org/Events/TriathlonLondonLeague/tabid/336/Default.aspx
This year we want to come a bit higher, and to do that, all we need is you.
The London Triathlon League races are a mixture of multisports events, Aquathlon (swimming and running), Duathlon (run-bike-run) and Triathlon (all three). The races are great for the following reasons:
1. The league races are of the shorter sprint type.
2. They are local to London.
3. Teams of, at least, five must be made up of male, female and veterans (or two of those?) so open to all
4. Encourage cross training which is a great way of increasing overall fitness (and benefits
running)
5. Are a really good way of getting experience into multisport races if considering some of the other triathlons later in the season.
6. Really early in the morning so it's over before they stop serving brunch!!
Last year I tried a number of ways of encouraging people to do this, kind words, coaching advice, I even sorted out subsidised (very sexy, if a bit tight) kit. This year it's pretty basic - bribery. The club will subsidise entry into a number of the London Triathlon League races. The subsidy will be spread over the entrant for each of the subsidised races. In addition I will bake a cake for each race, whether I'm there or not.
This year's fixtures:
5th Apr, Thames Turbo Sprint Triathlon *
18th Apr, Dragon Slayer Duathlon
24th Apr, Ful-On Duathlon
9th May, Morden 6n6 Aquathlon *
23rd May, Crystal Palace Sprint Triathlon *
18th Jul, Hillingdon Sprint Triathlon *
14th Aug, Clash of the Tritons Aquathlon *
31st Oct, Jekyll & Hyde Park Duathlon
* Will be subsidised, plus one of the Duathlons.
The reason for this email is that Race 1 will be the Thames Turbo Sprint Triathlon, on the 5th April and entries are open at http://www.thamesturbo.com/race-series/senior-race-series (we can sort out a refund/subsidy from the club after the race). It is an excellent race and great for a first Triathlon, with a 21km cycle with only 1 set of traffic lights in London which is pretty awesome. I even used it as a race warm-up to the last years London Marathon.
Please see the forum for links to the various race entry websites.
If you have any questions let me know, including the merits of cross training for Marathons etc.
Happy running (swimming and cycling!)
Neil (neil.pollock@shell.com)

ROUND NORFOLK RELAY - 18th-19th September
We’re looking at entering a team again this year into the Norfolk Relay. I understand from previous years and fellow Chasers it’s been a tremendous success and a fantastic running weekend away!!
The concept is great and each team must have 17 individual runners completing the 194-mile course over 24 hours. Each leg varying in length from just over 5 miles up to 20 miles if you’re feeling fit!!
I’m looking at generating interest now for this event and volunteers to help organise the weekend.
Can you email and let me, Dan, (actionmanxuk@yahoo.co.uk) know if you are seriously interested in running and if willing to help organise the event?
Here is a link to the event’s website http://www.roundnorfolkrelay.com

MSc RESEARCH STUDY - Dietary Practices & Nutritional Knowledge of Marathon Runners
Jane Nodder, a Chaser since 2003, works as a Senior Lecturer and Clinic Tutor in nutritional therapy at the University of Westminster, London. She is currently recruiting 80 runners training for the Virgin London Marathon 2010 for the research project she is completing for her MSc in Nutritional Medicine in the Faculty of Health & Medical Sciences at the University of Surrey, Guildford.
Jane's study will investigate the extent to which the dietary practices of club runners participating in the Virgin London Marathon 2010, meet guidelines for the composition of diets during training for endurance running events. The study will also identify key sources of nutritional information and knowledge amongst this group of athletes. Study participants will be involved in completing an on-line questionnaire (max 30 minutes to complete), and a 7-day Food & Training Diary during the period 22-28 March 2010. The outputs from her work will help to inform initiatives for improving the nutritional knowledge and practices of club level marathon runners.
So, fellow Chasers, if you are training for the Virgin London Marathon 2010, and would be interested in taking part in the study, please contact Jane for further information by email at nutriworks@aol.com or on 07850 705848 or seek her out at the Club.
And if you know other people who are training for London, please do pass on the word! Thank you.
